OUR MISSION
Know Christ. Grow in faith. Serve with love.
At Saint Patrick Catholic Church, our mission is to bring people closer to Jesus Christ through the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the sacraments, prayer, Catholic education, and service to others.
We seek to foster a welcoming parish community where individuals and families can deepen their relationship with God, strengthen their understanding of the Catholic faith, and share Christ's love with our neighbors.
Through worship, religious education, parish ministries, and charitable outreach, we continue the mission of the Church in the Fredericksburg community.
Our History
Rooted in Faith Since 1983
The history of Saint Patrick Catholic Church is a story of faith, generosity, perseverance, and growth.
What began as a small Catholic community gathering for Sunday Mass in a local daycare facility has grown into an active parish with a beautiful church, a Catholic school, and ministries serving parishioners of all ages.
Located near the historic Chancellorsville Battlefield, Saint Patrick Parish has served the growing Catholic population west of Fredericksburg for more than four decades.
March 17, 1983, The Founding of Saint Patrick Parish
On the Feast of Saint Patrick, March 17, 1983, Bishop Thomas J. Welsh of the Diocese of Arlington announced the establishment of Saint Patrick Catholic Parish.
Monsignor R. Roy Cosby was appointed the founding pastor.
In its earliest days, the parish celebrated Sunday Mass in a local daycare facility while plans developed for a permanent place of worship.
Through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. John Pruitt, land was made available west of Fredericksburg for the future parish church.
1983–1985, Building Our First Church
With a permanent home envisioned, parishioners worked together to establish a church where the growing Catholic community could gather for worship.
During these formative years, the parish laid the foundations for its future through the dedication of its founding pastor, parish families, and generous supporters.
The construction of the original Saint Patrick Church marked an important milestone in the establishment of a lasting Catholic presence in the area.

December 14, 1985, Dedication of the Original Church
On December 14, 1985, Bishop John R. Keating, Bishop of Arlington, formally dedicated the original Saint Patrick Catholic Church. This dedication marked a defining moment in parish history, providing a permanent sacred space for the celebration of Mass, the sacraments, and the spiritual life of the community. For more than three decades, the original church served as the center of parish worship and witnessed countless baptisms, First Communions, confirmations, weddings, and other significant moments in the lives of parish families.
1990, Saint Patrick Catholic School Opens
In 1990, Saint Patrick Catholic School opened, extending the parish's mission of faith formation and Catholic education.
Established under the leadership of Monsignor Cosby, with George Elliott serving as its first principal, the school began serving young students and their families. Over the years, the school expanded its educational programs while continuing to emphasize academic excellence, spiritual development, and Catholic values.
September 2020, Expansion of Catholic Education
As the parish and school community continued to grow, additional facilities became necessary to support Catholic education. In September 2020, new middle school facilities opened beneath the new church, providing classrooms for grades six through eight, along with spaces dedicated to technology, art, music, and faculty activities.
This expansion represented a significant investment in the future of Catholic education at Saint Patrick.
June 13, 2021, Dedication of Our New Church
A new chapter in the history of Saint Patrick Parish began on June 13, 2021, when Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Arlington, formally dedicated the present Saint Patrick Catholic Church. Designed by McCrery Architects and constructed by Wack Construction, the new church was built to accommodate the needs of a growing parish community. With seating for approximately 550 worshippers, the new sanctuary provides a larger and more spacious setting for the celebration of the Holy Mass and the sacraments.
Following the dedication of the new church, the original church building was repurposed as a parish hall, allowing it to continue serving the community through fellowship, ministries, and parish activities.
The dedication of the new church was both a celebration of the parish's history and an expression of hope for future generations.
Our Parish Today, Continuing the Journey of Faith
Today, Saint Patrick Catholic Church continues to build upon the vision and sacrifices of its founding families.
From its humble beginnings in 1983 to the dedication of its present church in 2021, the parish has remained committed to worship, Catholic education, service, and community.
Our buildings have changed and our parish family has grown, but our mission remains the same: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and welcome all who seek to grow in faith. We remember with gratitude the clergy, religious, parishioners, benefactors, and volunteers whose generosity and dedication have shaped Saint Patrick Parish. Together, we look toward the future with faith, continuing to build a parish community centered on Christ.
